Objectives of the Consultancy

The overall objective of this consultancy is to integrate ecotherapy into the existing environmental education curriculum and to equip animators with the necessary knowledge and skills to apply ecotherapy approaches in their environmental sessions to children and youth.

The specific objectives are:

1. Curriculum Adaptation: Adapt the existing environmental education curriculum by incorporating ecotherapy principles, practices, and activities.
2. Capacity Building: Conduct a 5-day ecotherapy training workshop for a limited number of animators.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for:

3.1 Curriculum Adaptation

• Review the existing environmental education curriculum (written in Arabic language).
• Visit Arisheh center to identify relevant opportunities for ecotherapy integration.
• Tailor the curriculum to the context of the ecological center, ensuring activities are designed to maximize the therapeutic potential of its natural setting.
• Design a structured list of ecotherapy components (e.g., mindful nature walks, forest bathing, nature-based meditation), their purposes (e.g., stress reduction, fostering social connection), step-by-step instructions, facilitation tips, safety considerations, practical considerations (duration, group size, materials needed, safety tips).
• Ensure that the adapted curriculum is culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, and aligned with the educational and psychosocial objectives.

3.2 Capacity Building of Animators / training

• Design and deliver five (5) interactive training days to introduce the adapted curriculum to a limited number of animators and to train them on its effective and practical usage.
• Teach the basics of ecotherapy and psychosocial support, how to lead activities in a trauma-sensitive way, and the key ethics of working with children and youth.

4. Deliverables

The consultant will deliver the following:

1. Inception Report including work plan, curriculum adaptation methodology, and training outline.
2. Adapted Curriculum integrating ecotherapy principles and activities, developed in draft form for review and finalized based on feedback.
3. Five-Day Training Workshop delivered to the animators, including a knowledge gain assessment through a pre-/post-test.
